Arrests in the murder of Jason Mizell aka Jam Master Jay

Two men have been arrested for the 2002 killing of Run-D.M.C.’s Jam Master JayThe New York Times and New York Post report. The men, Ronald Washington and Karl Jordan, Jr., have been indicted on charges of murder while engaged in drug trafficking, a law enforcement official told The Times and the Post.

Jam Master Jay, who was born Jason William Mizell, founded Run-D.M.C. in 1983 with Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons and Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels. He was shot to death on October 30, 2002 at a recording studio in Jamaica, Queens. He was 37 years old.

In October 2017, around the 15th anniversary of Jam Master Jay’s death, an Associated Press headline suggested that the murder case had gone cold. At the same time, however, New York’s WPIX suggested that detectives were nearing a resolution in case.
